Designer Collections presents Sara Gilbane + Top 10 Art Picks

May 2nd, 2011. Published in INTERVIEWS by Staff Writer.

Designer Collections introduces you to Sara Gilbane
Meet a top interior designer, learn about her unique design style and see what art picks she loves.

What is the last exhibition you attended?

The last exhibition I attended was for Natasha Law and Lucy Soni at the DVF gallery space in New York.

How would you describe the décor in your home?

Soothing blues, pale teals, with pops of color and pattern. Modern artworks meets traditional furniture.

What was the first work of art that you purchased?

A Natasha Law painting. It is hot pink with varying shades of softer pinks throughout- it is hanging above my dining table.

What artists most inspire or influence you?

The list of artists is much too long to attach. I am inspired by color and texture and it is usually a mix of both ( bold color in a lacquered finish or thick oil) of these that gets my creativity flowing. I use art to inspire rooms for clients so it is always great if they have a piece they love that we can work off of.

ABOUT SARA GILBANE

Named one of the Top 20 Next Wave Designers by House Beautiful and one of TradHome's Top 20 New Traditional Designers, Sara Gilbane is best known for her classic modern-traditional style - combining low-key and elegant pieces with a youthful, chic flair grounded in practicality. Above all, Sara enjoys creating casually elegant homes that are warm, comfortable, and livable.

The daughter of a nationally recognized real estate developer, Sara had an early exposure to architecture and design. After graduating from Brown University she went on to study interior design at Rhode Island School of Design. Sara launched her career in 2003 working with acclaimed design firm Kemble Interiors.

Sara has been featured in House Beautiful, Trad Home, Lonny, The New York Times, Elle Decor, Better Homes and Gardens, and The New York Observer. Sara has developed a personal signature that is classic, eclectic, elegant, and clean. Combining antiques with client's prized possessions and an impeccable sense of color, Sara creates a welcoming space that reflects a client's taste and personality.

Sara and her team have worked on a broad spectrum of designs and locations from classic New York town homes to waterfront estates to modern family apartments on the Upper Eastside. Sara's innate sense of style, appreciation of architecture, and respect for locale have earned her a client base in Newport, Manhattan, Palm Beach, Long Island, and Nantucket.
