My work is concerned with an expanded representation of the body, both its internal spaces and external auras. Some of the pieces are figurative in appearance, such as the heads and torsos, while others are swirling spherical shapes with undulating curves. These latter pieces are based on an intuitive perception of what that part of the body feels like as I am drawing it with two hands at the same time. I envision these sculptural cave-like spaces as models for architecture that could one day be built as resources allow, but also as fantastic ideal spaces for contemplation.
I am also inspired by human’s seemingly universal attraction to natural phenomena such as the full moon, landscapes, and sunsets. Using household materials and found, recognizable objects, I make tableau that mimic these idealized natural spectacles and blend them seamlessly into the home environment.
