Matthew Bush is a Philadelphia-based artist specializing in illustration and murals. He has painted roughly fifty murals since 2004 in Washington DC, New York, Italy and Philadelphia, where he has recently joined the world-renowned Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
Matthew was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, across the street from Chicago. He then went to American University in Washington, DC where he minored in Studio Art and graduated cum laude from their School of International Studies. He also received the Mauer Award for Excellence in the Arts, awarded to one student each year. He stayed in DC for two more years working with City Year, an Americorps organization, where his work focused on education, civic engagement and physical service.
From there Matthew went to Philadelphia to study law at Temple University, where he joined the nationally ranked Trial Team and also drew a series of legal comic strips for an international comparative study of perspectives on liability. After graduating, Matthew prosecuted for the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office for a few months before returning to art.
Matthew's work is currently on display at the District Attorney's Office of Philadelphia and at Era Restaurant at 28th and Poplar Streets in Philadelphia.
