Cumulative layers of paint are dragged across a rigid support, lifted off, and placed back down. As colors mix on the panel, blurs, marks, lines, and light intrinsically emerge. I take notice and work with the unique blends, surface breaks, and other incidental details that come forth. As the painting evolves over time, I make intuitive decisions based on work’s progression. I use the basic conventions of painting, i.e., using color and line to create balance, luminance, and an illusionary sense of space – as a compass for my decisions. Each painting takes its title from the day on which it is completed.
