Cate’s paintings are an abstract terrain where gestures, forms, and lines form describe physical perception and human relationships. This past year she began painting words such as Gulp, Bump, Rub and Snog, enmeshing language and visceral gestures to describe bodily sensation, both through limbic and logic.
Her recent explorations into language stem from a focus on self-examination, which is fueled by working alongside other artists. That desire for exchange recently led Cate to found Opencubes, an artist critique group for alumnae of the SVA Summer Residency Program. Cate is a graduate of the Hartford Art School. She lives in Kent, NY and works in Brooklyn, NY.
