Born in 1969, Cariya, a free-thinking individual, grew up absorbing the spirit reflected in the music and philosophies of the '60s and '70s. Extensive travel all over the world and a visual way of perceiving her surroundings drew her naturally to expressing herself in paintings, installations and wearable art. Having studied and re-interpreted major movements and artists of the 20th century, her work spans a wide variety of techniques, color types, materials and themes, combining different schools of thought and philosophies translated and updated into reality through post-historical painting and design. Cariya is a vegetarian and has a passion for cooking, as well as practicing yoga and meditation. She believes in karma and reincarnation. Utilizing her wide range of academic education (e.g. a doctoral degree in sociology for a dissertation on a comparison of Indian and US-American culture) and her professional backgrounds, she combines her insights from different fields into a visual language to communicate thoughts and learnings in the context of constant change and movement on a variety of levels. Her exhibitions and projects are shown in locations all over the world, for example New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, Hong Kong, Mumbai and various cities in Italy, and her pieces of art are present in private collections on three continents. Cariya lives with her husband Jason and their two cats Leo and Tiger in Mumbai, India.
