April Hannah is an artist and designer working in Brooklyn, New York. She received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2001. Hannah’s artwork consists of abstract paintings, drawings and sculptures that explore the relationships between nature, science and Eastern thought through an open-ended systemic process of growth and evolution. April Hannah’s first foray into furniture design was realized in May of 2010, when she debuted her award-winning, eco-friendly Tree Table Collection at BKLYN DESIGNS 2010. She received BKLYN DESIGNS Inhabitat Editors' Choice Green Award for Best Kids Design and Best Newcomer. Inspired by the networks, patterns and processes of nature the eco-friendly pieces exhibit a modern, simple yet sophisticated, playful aesthetic that engage both children and adults. In 2011, Hannah introduced the nature inspired Adult Collection. All April Hannah furnishings are handcrafted using durable, environmentally sustainable materials and non-toxic, water-based finishes. April Hannah’s work can currently be seen in the exhibition “Mad About Art + Design” in the McNeill Art Group Tribeca Project Space in New York through September 2012. In December 2010, Hannah was awarded a residency at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD Museum) in New York City, where she designed and produced functional, sculptural objects, including the Lotus Coffee Table. Previously, Hannah’s paintings and sculptures have been included in the 2010 CMCA Biennial at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, Maine as well as a summer 2010, solo exhibition at the Islesboro Historical Society of Islesboro, Maine. Her work has also been shown in both local and national venues including Arthouse at the Jones Center in Austin, Texas; SPACES Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio and the Carlos Gallery of Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
