Charriol’s work is derivative of his many homes and diversified influences. Born in Hawaii to French parents, he was raised predominantly in Hong Kong and London, with time in, Paris and New York. A student at the Parsons School of Design, Tufts University, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Northeastern University, his experiences have molded a person with varied interests. He has a deep appreciation for epic films and has been affected by journeys to underdeveloped countries, where he “feel[s] the essence of human beings” — and a painter that reflects those interests within the narrative of his work. There are distinct European influences and mythical subject matter reminiscent of Asia and Southeast Asia.
