The American LA-based artist Paul Robinson is constantly creating new departures in his photographic style and technique. Robinson mostly works with analogue film and his approach can be seen in many ways as a reaction to digital photography and photo shop practices. His latest series ‘Transparent’ explores the aesthetic possibilities of transparencies, slowly building a layered work and disrupting the drying ink to great visual effect. By manipulating and layering the images by hand as opposed to digitally, Robinson is in effect creating something more akin to painting and collage. The effect is varied, sometimes lyrical and mysterious, sometimes bold and striking. He has exhibited extensively in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, London and New York.
